Who we are
The Racial Inclusion Project is a partnership project, funded by the Somerset Children's Fund, and managed by the Somerset Racial Equality Council, in conjunction with Somerset County Council's L.E.A. There are 2 full-time project workers, covering the entire Somerset County.
What we do
We provide advice and support to children aged 5 - 13 and families from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, who have been subjected to racial harassment in schools or local community.
We can offer
- Individual support sessions for children.
- Advice to parents and carers.
- Advice to schools on developing Race Equality Policies and good practices around the issues of race and identity.
- Provide race focused work packages (to fit with PSHE/citizenship in the curriculum) and assemblies to promote diversity and understanding within schools and communities.
- Promote diversity and good race relations in Somerset.
We are currently developing a network of Young peoples groups for Black and Minority Ethnic children across the county, and hold larger events for all Black and Minority Ethnic children from across the county during the school holidays. We also aim to develop a network of parent support groups.
